MICRODIA Launches OTG USB-C Flash Drive & Card Reader
The USB Type-C standard will be rolled out in Europe in the middle of 2015. Already the tsunami murmurs have crescendoed and consumers, companies, and manufacturers are more than just wondering how this standard will affect their use and production of computers, gadgets and devices that use the current USB standard ports and connectors.
USA, April 10, 2015 – MICRODIA Ltd. (MICRODIA) recently announced its USB Type-C On-The-Go (OTG) series. At one end, the USB-C features the current standard USB interface but adds a twist. There is a microSD card slot above the USB port enabling the user to employ the card reader function of this tiny OTG product. A semi-transparent cap protects the USB connector and microSD card. With the microSD permanently left in the slot, the USB-C becomes a flash drive, albeit with a flexible memory. The opposite end, incorporates the new USB Type-C standard which fits into the port of the new MacBook 2015, the Chromebook Pixel and the upcoming Dell Venue 11 Pro The new MacBook 2015 from Apple, Google’s Chromebook Pixel, and Dell’s Venue 11 Pro use the USB Type-C standard for power input and external USB-related devices, including flash drives. Ergo, demand for USB Type-C OTGs and related products will build up and explode. Currently, though, an adapter is required for the majority of USB-related devices available on the market.
However, the OTG USB-C from MICRODIA already incorporates an adapter function, thus mitigating the need for a separate product: The dual-ended OTG features a Type-C connector and a current-standard USB connector. This complementary duo lets the user employ the OTG USB-C’s adapter functionality.
Users can take advantage of this triumvirate by simply plugging in the OTG USB-C. It comes equipped with Hot-Swap support, thus provides extra convenience for the user: There is no need to eject the USB device before exchanging the full microSD card for a new one.

The MICRODIA OTG USB-C will be featured at MICRODIA’s booth #1D-B06 at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair Spring 2015, 13 – 16 April taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai. It will also be available for sale in 2015.
